I need help identifying a berry

I've a big shrub in my garden, and I've not a clue what it is.

It's got loads of berries on it this year, I want to know if they are edible.

So it has tiny spiky leaves, the berries are a dark, matte, blue/purple colour, with red stems.

It's flowers are small and orange.

I've tried googling, but I'm on my phone and it's not helpful

TIA

Bittersweet?

Is it prickly? What colour are the leaves?

Sounds a little bit like some sorts of berberis, if so it would have very sharp prickles. Fairly sure they are not edible if so, but you could look it up.

Thanks, I managed to track it down. I believe they are Darwin's barberries. The prickles are sharp (and a right PITA)

Sounds like a Mahonia.

Oh, Darwin's barberry is another name for berberis so I was right, yay Grin I have just been chopping mine and you are right about the prickles!

The ever optimistic PFAF thinks Berberis berries are edible. They give Darwin's barberry a 4 out of 5.
