We have a north facing garden and I'm looking for a shrub that won't grow more than 4-5ft tall and not spread too much. However want something that will flower for an extended time? Suggestions please?

Viburnum - viburnum tinus is a good doer, although viburnum oculus and viburnum bodnantense are nicer plants

Choisya Aztec Pearl

Hydrangea quercifolia

Pittosporum (in a sheltered spot)

Think about foliage as well as flowers, because even something with a long flowering season will be barefoot several months every year.
