how are you managing with hosepipe ban?

Garden desperately needs watering, and so far I've just been putting buckets of water on individual plants. But it is so timeconsuming. Tap is miles away. And all the newly planted stuff is crying out for a downpour..
How can I beat the hosepipe ban? Am I allowed to fill up a paddling pool for example with a hose, and then use it to water by hand?

Sorry but no, you are not allowed to fill a paddling pool with a hose. Water well with a can or bucket in the cool of the evening then get a thick layer of mulch down to minimise evaporation.

good idea, need to get a mulch in before I start watering properly again.

But snarking aside, what are the guidelines on swimming pools then? Are people allowed to fill those with hoses then? Hmm [I do not of course have a swimming pool but feeling miffed that those who do should be allowed to fill them)

No hosepipe ban here! Where is it in effect in the UK?

I don't see anything wrong with filing a pool and using that though.. You're not wasting it, just transferring it from one place to another as efficiently as you can!!

I thought the ban had been put on hold. I put the hose pipe on a little bit, and carry the watering can with me, making sure I don't put any water on the floor (when I'm walking between containers I put the water in the can IYSWIM) I only water the veg, and I have plastic bottles with holes in dug into the containers so I fill them up. My excuse is that I'm 40weeks pregnant, and I always assume the hose pipe ban is for people who waste water on sprinkling lawns and washing cars. :)

Whereabouts is the ban in place? Not in my area, I don't think.

I've just checked what our water company say. Filling a paddling pool is forbidden but filling a water butt isn't.

I'm finding all the filing of watering cans a pain; I did a lot of new planting this year do have lots of vulnerable little plants. I'd be quite grateful now for some overnight rain.
