I'm a bit of a novice gardening-wise so could do with some tips. I've got 3 small containers and I'd like to add something to them to go on my patio that will give immediate impact. Can anyone suggest anything? I've got a heuchera (ebony and ivory) in one large pot already and I really like it.

Pelargoniums would look nice. There are loads of bedding plants in garden centres at the moment, that would be a quick way to add colour with very little effort. Or any you thinking of growing something from seed? Nasturtiums and night-scented stock grow very quickly.

Beans are a great idea, the flowers are so eye catching too.

I like clarkia a lot, very easy and quick to grow from seed. Needs sun.

I've just planted up pots today with surfinia, they are cheap to buy and give instant colour, and should go on all summer as long as you don't let them completely dry out.

Yes agree Geraniums.
I've got 3 pots of pink and white ones. They are great in full sun and if you dead head them, keep coming all summer long.
Lots of pretty colours.
