I have just moved house and my new back garden is full of dandelions. In fact ther are more dandelions than grass!!!!
Should I try weed & feed? or is it best to just re-turf it all?
Also I have a dog so I need to be careful with weed killer!!!
I would appreciate any advice.

Most lawnweedkillers are soluable and pet safe but check the back first. If you think there will be nothing left I would just returf. I have moved to a house last summer and I am still trying to recover the lawn. I got rid of the weeds first, then the moss. This has left massive patches that are being reseeded with patch magic (when the bloody pieons stop eating it and the seed stops floating away in the huge rain puddles on the lawn. If it doesn't take I will be returfing!!!

I've had this problem and weed + feed plus regular mowing and digging out the odd one has done the job. It will take a bit of time but if you keep it mowed then it will look absolutely fine (and if you aren't going to keep it mowed then I really wouldn't waste my money on new turf!)

If you returf then you need to make sure the dandelion roots are killed or they will just come back again.

My lawn is the same. Don't think we will ever get rid of them completely as our next doors garden is the same and they don't cut their grass very often to the seeds (?) are just traveling across in the wind. I might be wrong? But yesterday DH put some 4in1 grass feed, weed and moss stuff down so we will see what happens. We have previously dug them up but they keep coming back.

I find a spot treatment like Verdone works best on dandelions but if you have used another product already you need to wait around 6 weeks before you move on to something else.

Keep the dog indoors until the product has dried and always check the small print for detailen info re children and pets.

Spray each dandelion plant on a dry and calm day when there is no rain forecast for 24 hours. If you have flowers, pick them off (or just mow over them).

The 4 in 1 will kill some weeds and moss but to be fully effective you need out all the dead stuff afterwards (can take up to 5 weeks to work, so do not expect a change overnight). If you have large bare patches (you will if there is lots of moss), then a top dressing and overseeding will be needed.

Regular mowing will help, ideally every week to 10 days, don't cut your lawn too short, you need to take off just the tips of the grass rather than scalp it.

I have a similar problem - dandelions + DS.

I'm going to tackle it I think. Weed killer stuff + regular mowing, and possible patch magic whatsit.
