Too late for seeds this year?

My new greenhouse took over 6 weeks to be delivered. While waiting for it, I bought lots of packets of seeds that i wanted to sow for this summer. It has now arrived but I'm thinking it's probably to late to plant the seeds - I had lots of bedding plants (lobelia, petunias, stocks etc)

Unfortunately I only really have one windowsill that is suitable for seeds, but at least I managed to plant my sweet peas.

Check the back of packets, many seeds can be sown for a long period, some don't get sown until May (French beans, fennel, etc).

You can still try your bedding (anything that says sow mid Spring), we are still in April and it has been colder than normal. If you have missed the boat for some varieties, store cool and dry until next year; a tin in the larder is perfect, don't keep them in the greenhouse.

Also, if you don't get round to sowing at least you have space to grow tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, melons, ...

Now I did some sowing recently and made the considered decision not to plant my stocks, so I guess it said on the packet I could plant them in the ground later. I'll need to go back and look, but I think you may be alright with the stocks

Hmm, the back of my Mr Fothergills stocks say sow outdoors March - mid July. For continuous display make sowing at two to three weekly intervals.

TBH, Queen, most of us who have gardens are doing diddly squat in them at the moment! Any seeds sown will be washed away..

If you have any windowsill space, try putting a few seeds into compost, and see how you get on.

I thought I was really late sewing my veg seeds at the start of April, until I found a label from last year showing I'd planted nearly a month later! We had oodles of veg last summer

Its a bit like the lottery... if you never plant them, you'll never know if they'll grow :)

Thanks for the replies. I might just chance it and plant some now.

Right, you have spurred me into action too. I am going to put mine in a tray to start off though
