What can I plant with potatoes?

I've planted some seed potatoes in a half barrel on my patio, but because it so visible from the living room I'd really like to plant some flowers in the same barrel. Is that feasible - and are there any flowers that would grow well with potatoes?

You would need to plant something fairly temporary as the potatoes will eventually grow out and cover your half barrel. To keep the edible theme how about some lettuces in a ring round the outside? You can buy baby ones in the garden centres right now.

Lettuces, try pretty ones like lollo rosso. Trailing plants to grow down the outside such as nasturtium might look nice as they will spread beyond the barrel.

Nasturtiums! yes like that idea a lot - many thanks! And i might add some pretty lettuces too.

Just make sure you get a trailing variety of nasturtium. They grow easily from seed but buying plants from a garden centre will get you off to a quicker start.
