Is it?

have not pruned a couple which I now find are group 3 so they suggest pruning hard in Feb-March, but with all this warm weather they have already started growing- anyone?

I would prune down to the first buds and leave those to grow.I pruned mine down in febuary but i think it was a bit early as i had absolutely no buds anywhere. In fact i thought i had lost several[i have several different varieties, early and late flowering].They all seem to be sprouting now-but the clematis montana is only just recovering and still looks a bit feeble.

I think it would be fine to prune them now - because they are growing vigorously, they will soon be back to their former size.
