How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

We want to have two trees cut down in our garden - one is an apple tree that has a disease and one is a holly tree that sheds spiky leaves all over our garden. I have no idea how much it might cost - £50 or £500?! Can anyone give me a ballpark figure?

Am also on a mission to get our neighbours to cut down their trees that are approximately 10cm away from our house and which are pulling our extension down. But that's a whole other story...

depends on size of trees and how complex the job is...ie does it require a tree surgeon or can any old person do it. our oak trees (think v big) had to have branches sorted out after gale - 2 man job for 1 day - i think - and that was around £500 mark - they are expensive but highly skilled. yours sounds more straightforward though. are you asking them to get rid of waste or are you doing this - could make quite a difference to cost. gardeners here charge £15 per hour.

I think it is straightforward. Thanks for that, I'll do investigating.
