September flowering shrubs or flowers

My very good friend has recently lost her baby and I want to get her a gift to show how sorry I am. I was thinking of a flower/shrub that flowers in September.

Help please?

I'm so sorry for your friend. Sad

It's one of the trickier months to plan for as so much of it depends on the summer that has been had previously.

Off the top of my head I can think of Asters (otherwise known as Michaelmas Daisies - Michaelmas is Sept 29). They come in a range of pink/purple/red/lavender shades and in various heights (although my favourites are really tall).

Also Japanese Anemones (aka Windflowers) - very beautiful but can take a while to establish.

There are autumn flowering bulbs colchicums as well.

I'll have a think and see if I can come up with anything else.
