We have a large trellis in the garden which we want out. This one

Except that its not pretty any more. This photo was taken 5 years ago. We have since (accidently) killed the climber and the trellis is pretty decrepit and battered looking. Its just in the way and we want rid. It seems to be sunken into the ground quite a lot.
We have NO CLUE how to get it out because we are DIY-Ingoramuses. Should brute force and a mallet do the trick? I freecycled it and someone wants to come collect - I said she'd have to help us get it out, but not sure if I need more help than a neighbour with a spade!
