Little patch for the children...what to grow?

Just weeded and dug a quarter circle patch at the corner of our lawn. Five wellies long for each straight side. Thought the dc could divide it from one corner so they'd have a thin triangle each.
Two questions: what could I use to mark the dividing lines/border and what could they grow with relative ease?
Thank you!

Hi ya how old are dcs? You could start off some broad beans now indoors ready to plant out later and also start some dwarf peas for planting in march, I would dig some fertilizer in while waiting before planting out 😄

Six, three and seven months-although dd2 might get her bit next year! Broad beans would go down brilliantly with dd1- her favourite. Sorry to be a dunce-what kind of fertiliser? Ds was very taken by the pile of manure our neighbour had delivered!

Lol yes kids love muck! I have an allotment and a two year old so muck comes as standard lol ask your neighbour for some muck or you can buy chicken pellet manure from b&q fairly cheep excuse the pun! And sprinkle and dig and you can get dc to do that just get them to wear gloves. Maybe you can grow cress on window and also herbs indoors until weather a little warmer and that might spark more interest If I can help with anything else just ask and happy growing.

Easy to grow with guaranteed results are courgettes, runner beans and french beans. You could do a wigwam for the beans. Swiss chard can last 2 seasons if you just harvest the outer leaves. Radishes for speedy crops. Cherry tomatoes, although they'll take ages to grow and fruit and then everything happens at once.

Thank you! Dh has commandeered the spot for sweet peas-but I've bought sine seeds for the dc to sow in another spot. Hoping there'll be lots of flowers where once there were weeds. Going to also give each child a big container for veg. Thanks for all the suggestions-I started eating onions because I grew them years ago when I was little. Smile
