Puppy pee on my magnolia tree

Our new puppy has decided that his favourite place for relieving himslef is at the foot of our magnolia tree. It is quite small and I consider it quite vulnerable as I moved it to it's current position last September. It's about 7 years old and I really don't want to lose it. Will all the pee damage it or can I ignore it?

what about putting a wire fence thingy around it

leaving a gap between chicken wire fence and the tree

and then the wee will not reach the tree iyswim

Ours is in the middle of our garden and we have dug a square around it IYSWIM and put some wood on each side.
Does that make sense?

It's not massive but theres a big enough gap for the dog not to pee.

What about putting a cut off tree trunk somewhere in the garden for him to wee against

or a wooden steak

but I think a tree trunk will be better

We have a big tree in the middle of the garden but he has been ignoring that. He doesn't actually pee against the trunk but he likes the ground around it.
Do you think it will really damage the roots?
