Horse Trough

I have a wall mounted iron horse trough, and am wondering what sort of plants to put in it at this time of year. Its about 2 ft long I suppose. The only things I've ever put in there are geraniums (dull) and pansies mixed with a bit of ivy/traily shite. Anyone have any suggestions please, or photos of what you have

In my best windowbox, which is about the same size, I have red cyclamen, heuchera Crimson Curls (for the foliage, I'll probably cut off the flowers), purple violas and a very zingy lime green ivy.
