Rabbit/Hare in garden -friendly deterrants

Hi, my mam has a rabbit, but thinks it's a hare in her garden, It has been chewing all her plants and making a right mess.
Is there any friendly repellants she could use, she also has a dog, so something dog friendly too.
I have a pet rabbit myself, so have been siding with the rabbit much to my mam's annoyance Grin
Any help would be great, ta :)

has she not tried setting the dog on it? if its anything like mine it will be too slow to catch it but give it a pretty big scare

Put bluntly, there are no easy ways to put off a rabbit. They will even chew through electric rabbit netting (voice of painful experience).

If the dog won't chase it out (and assuming she doesn't want to eat it Grin), the options are really either

  • put up with them eating her plants
  • proper rabbit fencing (expensive, but probably the best option if there are a lot of rabbits around
  • catch it in a live trap (but then what to do with it . . .)

I have used those devices that emit a noise rabbits don't like for years with a lot of success. They work better in open spaces, i.e. no trees and bushes in the way, but they may help depending on the layout of the garden.
