Plant labels are always useful (if you've got crafty minded dc you can always get them to make them out of old milk cartons)

Twine? A dibber? Gloves? Fleece hat? A trowel (although beware as most keen gardeners already have a dozen and may not want more!)?

We've loads of trowels! He's just bought a dinner which is what gave me the idea of stocking fillers.

He goes through loads of gloves so that's a good idea.

Exactly! I always have to smile cheerfully as people say "I know you love gardening so thought you'd like a new trowel".

Someone got me a widger once, it's like a metal lolly stick, but a bit "spoony" at the ends, great for getting tiny seeds planted or transplanted.
Perhaps a thing with lots of pockets that hangs on the back of a door, to keep seeds in (the one I have is a car tidy from the pound shop)
You can get mugs with a saucer that fits in the top, to keep bugs out or hold a biscuit. They have witty phrases on like "the lawn ranger" or "raindrops keep falling on my shed".
Go to a garden centre and peruse their gadget section.

How about an eco pot maker?

A tin for seeds?

GnomeDePlume · 08/11/2011 21:16

these are an absolute godsend for watering seedlings and plug plants.

Just to be clear they fit on any 2 litre bottle (old coke bottle or whatever). About the most useful gadgety thing I have ever bought!
