Getting rid of Ivy

Can anyone recommend a good strong weedkiller to kill off all traces of ivy? It comes into our front garden from the neighbour and its running wild.

I used a flamethrower when we inherited it in our garden.

It worked.

The flamethrower, actually I hired it from HSS but I believe most building or gardening supply centres sell them.
