Ferns in hanging baskets- survive the winter?

I saw a great looking idea on GW a few weeks ago where a skilled older lady had put ferns (exotic- looking- Snake something?) in hanging baskets, under trees.

I am wondering if I were to do that now (mid Aug) my ferns would survive the winter outdoors. Not necessarily putting anything exotic in! I am in mid-Hampshire.

Complete amateur Q: they'd die right back over winter, wouldn't they?

What ferns are you looking to put in the basket? are they 'indoor' plants or those sold as garden plants? I have lots of ferns in the garden and in pots outdoors which all die off over winter but come back to life the next year. However these are all ferns that have self seeded themselves (although perhaps that should be self spored) in the garden and therefore fully hardy.

I love all my ferns in pots and they would look good in a hanging basket

Have taken the plunge and planted two inverted cone shaped baskets up with 2 different ferns. They are currently hanging in the shade under the cherry tree and look fab!
