Which compost bin and why?

So would you buy this one or this one or something completely different.

We will have more than your average households worth of waste, but have no idea how quickly this will turn to compost and how quickly we'll fill it. We also have two preschoolers who will no doubt be very interested in it.

I prefer wooden ones but they are very easy for kids to climb into so if you think that will be a problem then get the plastic one and make sure you secure the lid. Check your local authority before you buy as I've just bought a plastic one for less than £10.

Was going to say the same. Our local council gave us ones like the first black one. I have that and the wooden one. I've put a square of old carpet on top of it.
If you do get a plastic one it's a good idea to drill some holes in it for air as the one vent does not allow enough air in. The wooden one gives better compost. You'll be waiting a year to get lovely compost but it is sooo worth the wait. I always think it seems good enough to eat and it's amazing how it changes.

Great advice about the local council, thank you. I've ordered two, buy one get one half price, for £27! Its the plastic type, slightly different from the one on the link but same principle and probably safer for the dc.

Looking forward to them getting here, I'm amazed at what you can put in them.
