Just how difficult is it to level a sloping garden?

I don't have a huge garden but it slopes downwards, not severely but enough that we can't have a pool or swing

local gardener has quoted £1000 which seems reasonable but it's still out of our budget

I am a total novice but don't mind a bit of hard work

any help greatly appreciated

I assume he was quoting to terrace it in some way. Not a job I would take on as a DIY task.

When the people next door levelled their garden they brought in a lorry load of topsoil to go at the 'low end' and then used a small digger to spread it around and roll it flat. I should think both of those come at a price.
