Rust - can it affect several varieties of plant?

I had an oriental poppy which started going very rusty coloured - I thought it was suffering from rust and took it out. It is in an area where there are quite a few different species. I had a wee look today and some of my other plants leaves are brown, curling and rust coloured. These being buddleja, Harry Lauder's walking stick, and azalea. Is it possible for these all to have rust or do you think it is leaf scorch and drought? The buddleja has been there for just over a year, the azalea and twisted hazel for about a week.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am always learning about the garden Smile
