I thought I should introduce myself. Hello, I'm Laura and I live in Fife. This is my first time really gardening, after living in flats overseas for twenty years. My mum gardened a lot when I was little, and I find that I absorbed a little from her. Otherwise I'm doing lots of research and making lots of mistakes.

We have a windswept garden with a woodland/windbreak bit, a fieldy/orchard bit and a more cultivated bit with lawns. I'm working on it section by section, so I don't get overwhelmed. So far, we have a new fence to exclude rabbits from one area, with newly planted windbreaks around it and a hawthorn hedge. I've just replanted the turning circle at the front of the house, and we have new fruit trees in the field. The woodland bit was thinned eighteen months ago and replanted with (mostly) native trees last autumn. Some of those are now squashed under sycamore branches that have come down in the wind. Oh well.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot from coming here. I'm sure I'll be showing my ignorance too.
