Our greenhouse that we put up a month ago has been wrecked this afternoon with the wind. Its full of plants and pots and tomatoes. I am so sad.

Oh dear I am sad for you. Don't know where you live but where I am all my beautiful tall herbaceous plants are in real danger of snapping. It's wild isn't it? My heavy wooden garden furniture is half way up the garden. Hope you can rescue some of your plants?

mustdash · 23/05/2011 16:58

I'm very Sad for you. I hope some of it is rescuable.

I'm sure there will be many losses like this in the next couple of days.

hulababy · 23/05/2011 16:59

:( I'm not suprised. Can you rescue any of the plants?

I only have the plastic type mini greenhouses. ne blew over yesterda so I came home to find the growbag upside down and the 4 tomato plants upturned. I have managed to rescue three of them I think and have no weighed the greenhouse down with bags of compost, hoping it will stay in place.

Pictish · 23/05/2011 16:59

Oh very Sad for you. The very same happened to me last year. I was gutted. Is anything at all salvageable?

NerfHerder · 23/05/2011 16:59

Oh no! That is very upsetting, and all your hard work gone.
I hope most can be salvaged.

southeastastra · 23/05/2011 17:00

what happened to it? surely they're built to withstand hardy winds?

GentleOtter · 23/05/2011 17:01

deste Sad

Can you bring the plants into the house until the gale passes?

Was it a glass greenhouse?

It is terribly wild outside.

deste · 23/05/2011 17:12

I can rescue the plants but it has polycarbon panels. I'm scared that if I take everything out it will be so light it will blow away. I have already rescued panels from neighbours gardens. I've just seen our motorhome moving past the window. I went to put the handbrake on and I think it has scraped against the gate. I rescued the cover for the BBQ as it was in danger of taking off. This is really bad. My DH will be home soon but I have to go out. There are trees in the next street down and the pavement is up. They are lying against the houses. Where is it coming from?

Crikey - having read this, I dashed out to check on my own GH - thank God I did....the cover had blown right off and the plants were getting trashed. We are off to secure it now!

Piss OFF wind!

ellangirl · 23/05/2011 17:26

Mine plastic growhouse is completely trashed, and most of my plants wrecked. I am so gutted!

Lauracorin · 23/05/2011 17:53

That's sad. We thinned a sycamore windbreak and interplanted with native trees last autumn. There are quite a few branches down on top of the new trees, and husband had to chainsaw his way down the drive to go and get the children from school. The house is actually shaking.

Pictish · 23/05/2011 18:24

Just had to rescue the trampoline from having blown over the fence and down the riverbank as well there. Shock

Greenhouse has been secured with 10 paving slabs and an old door and many metres of twine. Fingers crossed!

Poor you EllanGirl.

deste · 24/05/2011 10:23

Well amazingly I have not lost a single plant. I think the greenhouse is another story.

my plastic Wilkos 4 tier greenhouse almost blew away, I only just managed to hang on to it, plants and soil flying all over the place Sad I am traumatised!

bonnetarte · 24/05/2011 10:35

mine too- there are bits of it all over the garden- beans and peas seedling are done for too

Pictish · 24/05/2011 10:38

God it's such a pisser. I think because you invest so much time in it - growing is a labour of love, and one gets very protective and Gollumesque over those little plants.

bonnetarte · 24/05/2011 10:38

just looked outside and the wheelie bin has been blown into the greenhouse and smashed it too.
yesterday was wild here in NI where are you deste? Sad

deste · 24/05/2011 16:43

We are in Aberdeen.

bonnetarte · 24/05/2011 17:03

hi deste,
sorry about your greenhouse.mine is at closer inspection a right off. it is still howling here today and flights are still grounded because of volcanic ash.
Its been a mad year for weather. how is A'deen today? can you save the tomatoes?

deste · 24/05/2011 21:47

My tomatoes and cucumbers are fine. I have taken most of the planters outside but took some seedlings back into the greenhouse for the night. There is a gale blowing through it so dont know if that will do any good but I will keep fingers crossed. I hope you all have managed to salvage something.
