Hi,

anyone has any experience of growing potatoes on bags? We planted ours end of March, did what you supposed to do - top up the soil as they grow, gave them plant food ect and now they are growing like mad. They're probably twice the hight of the bags themselves and really branhced out, taking up halve the roof tarrace. Only a few buds on them so far though. Is that normal? All the photos I can see online are very moderately grwoing plants... My mother claims it means they won't give any bulbs, but she would say that just to annoy me

Sounds similar to our experience last year. We only got a handful of potatos. Not enough for a meal. Worked out each potato cost about two pounds each. Grin

Sounds as if they are doing really well and like the conditions you have created. You need to wait until the flowers open or the buds drop before harvesting them. Just out of interest, how do you go about harvesting them if they are in bags on a terrace with the minimum of mess?
