And also - which varieties. I got 3 strawberries off my 8 plants last year!

I planted 3, they grew. Shoots come out of the side and lead to a whole new plant. The slugs and birds ate more then their fair share though.

The first year of a strawberry plant's life isn't very productive, you should get a lot more berries this year of your plants.

hmm you need quite a few for a punnet a day!

and be sure to cover them with some netting or something otherwise birds sometimes get them

Straw on the floor helps to keep the slugs off them

I've planted my first plants this year and have 11.....!
