Mulching .... some questions

We had our garden done by landscapers two years ago but it wasn't mulched at the time - their advice but big mistake! Weeds are going mad, I spend my days spraying them! So two questions ...

If I sow some flower seeds, can I put bark mulch down as soon as the seeds are sown?

Secondly, the landscape guys recommended spreading a deeper layer of mulch without the membrane underneath. We have a lot of beds and the mulch itself is expensive ... is there a way to get it from source rather than through garden centres? Any ideas or advice please?

You need to wait for the flower seeds to germinate before you put down mulch, or they won't grow.

I always bulk buy my mulch by the pallet-load, and get it delivered - much cheaper - just google what type of mulch you want.
