Anyone Put Their Outside Tomatoes Out Yet?

Well that says it all really - and if you have, whereabouts in the country are you? I'm in Hampshire and am dithering and don't have enough fleece to cover them all if a frost is forecast....

And having got blight late last summer is there anything I should be doing to prevent it this year?

I put mine out beginning of this month Blush

They seem to be surviving though. I'm in Yorkshire.

Ahhh Knickers thank you for your reply!

You brave soul - I'm encouraged.... Out they go, this weekend...off my windowsills and into the big wide world...

I shall try not to hold you responsible if a heavy frost descends immediately and ruins my precious plants!

My ExFIL said not to put them out until the 1st of June, that was after I'd put mine out!

I wouldn't put them out yet tbh. You could start to harden them off now, so outdoors in their pots in the daytime (keeping them in if the weather turns really nasty) & then in at night then outside for good in May (and well into May unless they're desperately outgrowing their pots).

Its not so much the risk of losing them to frost, but they stop growing if they go below 10 C for any significant period and just kind of linger, they'll be much happier if you can keep them growing on well. I know at the moment its probably safely over 10 even at night, but it looks like we'll be back to more seasonal temps next week.

I'm Surrey/Hampshire border - keeping mine in for now unless they start to get to monster size. (They are growing rather rapidly)

I got blight last year too on my potatoes and toms. Not doing potatoes this year and hoping the tomatoes last a bit longer before succumbing. Did make a great green tomato chutney last year though to make use of the un-blighted ones quickly.

I've put mine out this week and they're not coming back in!

um...(novice gardener), im in NE scotland and i put them out a few days ago...think i'll followTakver's advice and bring them back in at night.

Mine are out but we have a very sheltered garden and they're up against a warm wall. One of them is about 80cm tall already, so hopefully it'll cope :-)

Not yet. Am in N East.

Have just sown mine indoors, I'm in Kent. Will plant out mid to end May.
