Has anyone got artificial grass in their garden?

We've got a really shady area where grass won't grow and I'm reluctant to put bark chippings as we've got lots of cats round us. It's quite a large area but the mud/clay renders it useless for the winter months when the kids can't really play on it or in the spring/summer if it's been quite wet.

I was wondering about fake grass? Or any other surface that people could recommend (the cheaper the better)? Access is a problem...

A friend of mine did this in her very shady garden in london. She had boys who turned the grass that they did manage to grow into a mudbath. She loved it, and you never have to mow!

See this is what I love about MN. Just been mowing my lawn. Been thinking about faking it for years (6 dc, 2 cats, 1 dog and no time). Looked on net and then thought I would just check on here and see if anyone had done it.
