Replacement for Jasmine

So, we have a very ugly front porch with a very pretty jasmine growing up it. It is starting to look a bit straggly, and hasn't come through the winter well. DH wants to get rid of it (I think he's looking for an excuse to buy an axe/saw), but I will only agree if I can find a suitably pretty alternative.

It needs to be a hardy climber, preferably with cover/leaves during winter (so not a clematis like thing that looks dead for 4 months of hte year, or at least mine do).

Suggestions please!

Thanks, will check it out. I like the idea of it flowering a lot, I'm trying to make a bee friendly garden, so any extra food is good!

Am still hoping to win a stay of execution for the current jasmine, but once DH has an idea in his head that something must go then there's little stopping him.

I may make it a condition that he must come with me to the garden centre to select the replacement, which should curb his enthusiasm!

Did you know that Morrisons are doing a promotion this week on climbing plants? I bought a jasmine and clematis for £1.79 each yesterday and they had Solanum in their selection too! Might be worth a look if you have a branch nearby.

Oh, thanks. Not sure where our nearest Morrisons is, but will have a look. When I was back in the happy North they were easy to find, but round our way in the South they're a bit rarer, which is most annoying.
