Child & pet friendly lawn feed and weed - recommendations?

My lawn is more dandelion than grass, with a few nettles thrown in for added value. I've got a cat, a toddler and a baby, so I don't want anything too nasty, but it needs sorting out and is a bigger job than I can handle by hand. I've also got a veggie bit adjoining so I don't want to contaminate the surrounding soil. Any tips on a good product to use? Thanks in advance.

They're pretty much all fine as soon as they're dry, so I've shut my animals in in the evening then done it.

We've just used Evergreen, 2 weeks on is working well, b*stard weeds are beginning to die, dandelions have gone all curly and brown :) We did it in the afternoon, dog got shut in then had walk last thing at night and then she went on it again next morning.
