summer-flowering bulbs for containers/pots?

Can anyone advise me please? I want to make up some low-maintenance pots for the patio this summer. I want to use bulbs - thinking that they will then come back again next year (tell me if I'm wrong!). And ideally I want them to have a long flowering period.

Can anyone with more knowledge than me suggest something pretty please? Thanks

• Nerine bowdenii
• Gladioli ( plant successionally for a longer display)

Agapanthus
Allium's
Dahlias
Dutch Iris
Lily of the Valley ...dainty white flowers and highly scented, my favourite!
