Any tips for first time veg growing in a small plot?

We have just moved into a new house which has a small (approx 2x2m) raised bed veg patch. Looks like the previous owner grew runner beans as there is a wigwam thing left but nothing else.

I (unsuccessfully) planted some veg years ago but it wasn't a success and I can't remember what I did. So, treat me as a complete novice - any tips for what I should plant and what I need to do to get things started?

We are in Edinburgh BTW so not as warm as some areas but it's a sheltered spot that gets sun from mid-morning till late afternoon in the summer probably. We have a 2yo DD and I am pregnant again so am after some nice easy ideas for our first year!

We grew lettuce last year - one pack of mixed seeds from the cheapy shop and we didn't have to buy salad all summer... Sew a few seeds every fortnight so that you don't get a load all at once.
