Two large and ever expanding clumps in my garden (not planted by me I hasten to add). Does anyone know a way to get rid of it completely. I dont know the variety just that it gets very tall and send shoots out across the lawn.

Thanks.

Unfortunately some varieties are very invasive. That's why it's betterb to plant it in a container, if you are in doubt

Have you tried digging it up? Are you willing to use weedkillers?

Dig round the outside with a sharp spade and break off any runners and pull them out.

It's probably too later to put a root barrier in place now.

Eeeek

Thanks for the replies

Happy to use any pesticides etc, its rather a large clump so not sure I am up to digging it out would rather kill it (got that Psycho music going in my head now).

Hate the stuff !

I moved into a house in the summer and the garden was completely overrun in parts by bamboo. I hacked much of it down (keep the canes for the garden) and found I am quite allergic to it - massive blisters and burns up my arms Angry

Anyway, it kept coming back so we dug out the roots as much as possible and left the ones that remained exposed all winter. That seems to have helped... I am sure it will keep popping back up but I'm now a bit more on top of it. The only way I found when I googled, other than removing the roots, is to cover it with certain kinds of herbicides, cover with plastic so that the chemicals burn through the plant. It's TERRIBLE stuff.

Grockle, Yes brings me up in a rash too (not as bad as yours sounds tho - I have to wear long sleeves and gloves when hacking it down - but it keeps coming back damn stuff. Will have to have a go at doing some digging.

It is evil stuff! DP and my Dad spent an entire day hacking at the roots. I wanted to burn it but it's right by the fence. Good luck - if you find a magic solution, please report back !
