Mini Mole Hills in Lawn...

I have these tiny mole hills appearing in my lawn and what looks like wasps coming out of them. We only have a tiny square of grass and its getting to the stage that there are more hills than grass. Does this sound feasible? What can I do or do I just have to grin and bear it. ps I hate wasps.

I noticed the mini molehills in my lawn today too - but didn't see any wasps or insects. It is much too early in the year for wasps although there are lots of bees around the cherry blossom.

Will be watching thread with interest.

My neighbour got these a couple of years ago, it was bees. She got the pest controller in and had them dealt with that way.

Oh that's a bit disappointing. I'd have no problems getting a pest controller in for wasps, but if it's bees....

I know, we hear so much about them falling in numbers. I'm no expert though, if they look like wasps maybe they could be wasps, have you tried googling a bit about this?

If you could get one in a jam-jar and take a look, you might be able to decide if it's a wasp or a bee - bees have a chubbier body, and a hairy body and legs, but wasps tend to be narrower and not particularly hairy. But if you hate wasps you may not want to get close enough to look!

Ok i have done some more research. they are mining bees, aka miner bees and they are harmless.

Aw thanks George I found all sorts of scaries when I searched and most involved heavy use of insecticide which I'm not too keen on the use of.

AMIS - really really wouldn't be able to didn't want to close to see what they were or even catch one Grin

Thanks.
