weedcontrol and shingle

know this is garden topic but need some help am planning on removing lawn at front and weedproof membrane and then shingle .Will have plants in tubs

But does anyone know ideally how deep the shingle should be

oh and what size is best no cats here that i see but we do have the odd fox and lots of rabbits

I'd go for medium sized pebbles in order to keep those pesky cats at bay, you shouldn't need too deep a covering for peebles, 2 inches should do nicely. If it's for something smaller like slate I'd go for a 3-4 inch covering, otherwise you'll be forever raking over the gaps!

hmm 20 mm would that be to small ?.Theres no cats here think the foxes keep them away

20mm is an inch ...I think! I'd pop another inch on just to be sure, unfortunately we have both cats and foxes!!! ..and the odd urban badger! Smile

sorry i meant as in size of the stones.And yes we to have a badger that wanders across the garden and the fields .the sett is not to far away so were are hoping for babys this year
