Had a look outside un the garden today and my ferns are looking very flat and unhappy. Leafs are still green but starting to brown but stems are completely brown. What should I do? Cut them right back to the soil? Help!!

Sincerely,

Black Fingers

It's probably just the cold winter we've had, it's early days yet but you could try some seaweed feed, you get it in liquid form from a garden shop, I used to keep ferns in big pots and every spring I gave them a good feed of it. Otherwise long as they are in a nice moist spot with shade (although some do like sun, depends on the type) they are usually easy plants.

Its unusually dry for this time of year, i'd give them a lot of water and a feed.

Crikey, I'm brutal with my ferns. I yank them out after each winter. They always bounce back beautifully each year.
