How do you know if its too wet to cut the grass?

Maybe a silly question I know but my grass hasn't been cut since autumn and its looking in need of a good cut! I was thinking about doing it this afternoon as it's such a lovely day out but worried about ruining it if its still too wet on the ground? I am in the south and we haven't had rain for a good week or 2 so I was hoping it would be ok? None of my neighbours have done theirs yet and they are good at keeping their gardens perfect so I was wondering if that was a sign it was too early!?! lol

What else should I be doing at this time of year too? There is so much that needs doing I really need to make a start!

Any advice would be appriciated!

feel it - if wet to the touch it's too wet to mow.
I mowed ours last tuesday and again on sat - and we are in the North!

BTW I wouldn't take too much notice of neighbours - boke next door said it was too soon when I said I was going to do ours - then I saw him doing his the next day.

Yes just feel it - I find a palm flat down onto it works well, then you'll get any wetness even from near the ground. If your hand's wet, so's the grass. But if it's been pretty dry for the last couple of weeks and a lovely day today, I'd bet it'll be dry.
