everthing i grow dies....help

Ive just done my garden and removed all the grass and resurfaced it. Its looking very borning. Ive bought some huge pots and compost.

I need to know what plants to put in them. I want some that you leave in the pots and which flower every year, is this possible.

Ive bought some flower seeds for my daughters pots, but i need plants in mine with minimum gardening. I just want to be able to tidy the pots up every year.

Any help would be appreciated

What about some edible perennials- rhubarb, jerusalem artichoke, fruit bushes? A bay tree would be handy if you cook a lot. Strawberries can be planted now and do well in containers.

I would go for evergreen shrubs.

Rosemary
Hebe
Heather
Bay Laurel
Skimmia
Euonymus

Or you could go for rhododendrons or azaleas (use compost for acid-loving plants).

Bulbs are great for pots. Tulips for Spring, Lilies for Summer, Nerines for Autumn.

I grow all sorts in pots, esp stuff that doesn't do well in my soil. We have 2 enormous azaleas that are 15 plus years old in pots, plus a Veronica Gentianodes, Pinks, Masses of French Lavender, Hostas and Agapanthus. Some fruit and veg do well in pots. Chillis look great in pots, and strawberry pots are fun.

A woman at the end of my street has got a pot filled with red and yellow flowers. Its stunning. My friend says they are lillies. I thought lillies were white.
