Do plants need natural light?

I want to put a plant in our downstairs loo. There is no window. People are in and out all day and the light is often left on, and the door is often left open. No natural light though, unless a bit manages to wander in from the room opposite I suppose.

Anyway, my question: Do plants need daylight to survive?

I'm pretty sure they either need daylight or a proper "plant-growing" lightbulb, I don't think an ordinary lightbulb will do the trick.

Yes. Get a fake one.

Some ferns grow in caves where theres just an artificial light. Not sure if there's any available as potplants which are this tough though.

The ones someone grew in my friend's buy to let didn't get natural light and they seemed to thrive. or so the police said!

@ DrSeuss. They normally have special lighting. Not that I know anything about it.

A quick Google shows loads of comapnies selling lights for plnts, but I can't immediately tell if they give off an odd colour of light that would be a bit strange for "normal" use as well - but you could pick a company and email them to ask!
