How many raspberry canes do I need?

Going to order some summer and autumn fruiting raspberry canes for my allotment but I'm not sure how many I need to provide a good supply? DH doesn't like them so it's just for me and DS.

Good question, I have just bought 6 canes but wondering if it's enough.

I was thinking abut 6 but a lot of the "collections" you can buy have 15-20 canes so I'm wondering if that's far too few. I need to calculate how many I can get across the width of my plot I think.

I think they spread quite fast so wouldn't think you need that many. I may be wrong, though.

My instructions say plant 12 inches apart, House of Mirth.

I have 6 canes. The first year I didn't get many at all, but every year since I get more and more.

Last year I had plenty for the three of us.

Yes I would say 6 was enough to start with - get some netting to go over the top too. I would stick with summer or autumn as well, not both - I prefer autumn because of the complete lack of work involved - you chop them down at the end and they magically come back with more of them the next year.

I know autumn are less fidly but surely having summer and autumn fruiting varieties extends the picking season?
