Primulas: too early?

I've got a tub next to my front door that is crying out for a splash of colour. It is roofed over but exposed from the front. I've seen trays of primulas on sale. Is it too early for them to be outside in a sheltered spot?

Any gardeners out there?

Primroses and primulas are reasonably hardy - I've got primulas and primroses in pots on an exposed patio which have been in flower for ages. they've been in the pots a few years now and were outside during all the snow too!
