Amaryllis - do they ever flower in the second year?

That's it really. All of last year's amaryllis (some very fancy varieties ::gnashes teeth::) are producing luxuriant leaves but nary a flower between them. Should I persevere? Or is it compost heap time?

You have to cut them back and let them rest. See here plant care. My DD's amaryllis flowers year after year but parts of her house are like Siberia so she doesn't have to put them in the fridge. Grin

Ah. Maybe that's what I did wrong. I did everything else by the book but didn't put them in the fridge. Oh dear. I think it may be compost time.
