she is such a sensitive little soul. We have to go out and collect seed later to grow some new babies next year.

Awww thats sweet.

I think you should go out and get her a goldfish, a hamster and a rabbit to compensate

Ahhh. Can you spin some story about the birds and squirrels needing the seeds to survive the winter and that the sunflowers die to help them?

tell her about compost, we have a whale of a time filling our bin and reaping the benefits

starshaker · 27/09/2005 17:16

tell her they havent dies just gone to sleep for the winter and will be back next year (actually do sunflowers grow again) if they dont go with the birds

I love 3 year olds sometimes they make you laugh one minute and cry the next. She has seen the blue tits and sparrows eating the seed soupy, and understands.
Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned chopping them up and putting them into the compost bin to make new 'soil'.

Maybe say the seeds get ground up by a wacking great machine and squashed till their insides explode to give us sunflower oil, and would she like some home made chips ?

Sorry, ours, couldn't resist.
