I planted potatoes in bags earlier this year and with one thing and another (I had my first DC in June which has kept me very busy!) didn't dig them up when the plants died back. Now, I see potato plants are merrily growing again.

Is this a good thing and now I'll get more potatoes?
Or have I been a silly twit and they're all going to die off and rot now winter's on it's way?

No, you'll get more potatoes.

I rotated beds last year and thought I'd cleared the original bed of potatoes but must have missed two or three because this year I got perfect new potatoes among the broad beans.

If you move the bags to a sheltered corner or drag them into a greenhouse, you should have new potatoes on Boxing Day which are lovely with cold meat and pickles. Yumm.
