I've spent the last week clearing out an old overgrown border and it contains 2 very old straggly fushia shrubs. I want to remove them entirely and spent yesterday chopping of all the branches as far back as I could. But now what? How far from the base of the plant should I start digging? And how deep? I have a couple of camellias at the other end of the border - about 8 metres away and I am worried I will damage them. What to you think?

It's an idea to leave a couple of longer bits so you can manouvre and loosen the roots by hand maybe chopping them in to 2 to help, Perhaps a good soaking would help as well.
