Has anyone got one of these? Are they worth getting, or is there a cheaper/better alternative?

rolypig composters

The gardens round here aren't big enough for a great smelly traditional compost heap to go down well with the neighbours, hence wanting something compact & self-contained. It'd mostly be for veg peelings & similar kitchen waste.

charliecat · 31/08/2005 14:28

They are cool! I want one!

WigWamBam · 31/08/2005 14:29

They're fab ... but they're £160

CarrieG · 31/08/2005 14:31

They do look fun - but the site gives the impression the company are quite new, so dh is refusing to let me spend £160 on a glorified oildrum unless I can find someone who has one & rates it...

Our water board has a scheme where you can buy a compact composter at a subsidised price - ours cost us £30 including delivery, accelerator, and kitchen scraps bucket. It might be worth checking out whether your water board or local council run a similar scheme before you part with that much money for the pig.

CarrieG · 31/08/2005 14:39

Thanks WWB - I'll look into that. I know our council's run similar schemes in the past.

(...still quite fancy having a big orange pig to roll around the garden tho'...said this to dh & he suggested a couple of sunbed sessions & a bottle of gin...)

Great minds think alike, CarrieG - I started this thread when I first discovered Rolypigs. I still think they're just gorgeous; but common sense prevailed and I didn't buy one (sob)!

WigWamBam · 31/08/2005 14:47

I think your dh needs a smack, CarrieG!
