Best shoes/boots for digging?

I have loads of clearing to do this autumn/winter, and lots to dig up. The soil in places is quite hard, so I need some decent boots to make it less tough on my feet. What do you wear for digging? I have some basic wellies, but they're not really up for the task.

Surely it's got to be a fur-lined rigger boot?

An engineer friend has the most fabulous purple safety boots officially for going on building sites, but which actually are worn on all occasions, but I think a special trip to London was needed for those.

Ooh - they might be just the thing! Bit more expensive than a welly, but I think it's the steel undersole thing I prob need. Thanks.
