Month by month guide on what to do in the garden?

We're moving house at the end of Sept. I've no idea what the soil is like and I've no idea about gardening. Does anyone have a step by step gardening guide - e.g. dig, compost, cut back, sow etc.

I'm particularly interested in growing veg. Is there anything that I can sow that late in the year?

Growing your own veg is really rewarding! The easy stuff does tend to be summer stuff like lettuce, tomatoes and radishes.

Right now Im sowing parsley to ensure we have supplies through the winter!

Some good ideas on this site:

If you are after a book Carol Klein (of gardeners world) produced a book a couple of years ago that goes month by month - Called 'Grow your own veg journal' and is really easy to follow.
