Rough Cost of Landscaping

I realise this is a how long is a piece of string type query - however, can anyone give me a rough idea of how much it would cost to get a Professional in to design and landscape my back garden.

It is approx 12M long by 14M wide.

It slopes gently away from the house and has very sandy soil.

I would like a large patio, a pond, raised beds and a paved area for a shed and compost bins etc.

I do not want a lawn as I am in Suffolk, which does not have very high rainfall and grass does not do well on my soil.

I would like to decide whether it is an affordable option before I get anyone to come round for a consultation.

Years ago, someone told me that the inflation-proof way to cost up an average sized garden design was that it was equal to the price of a small family car.

So what's that, about £10,000.

Also bear in mind how long you're going to live in your house for - i.e. whether you're going to want to get the ££££ you're spending on landscaping "back" in resale value.
Not having a lawn would be a no-no in a family house imo.

We had ours designed and worth every penny. The consulation and drawings came to £500 but excluded the survey as I completed the scaled drawings and levels myself which prob saved about £100 ish. She wasnt world famous but well known so I can imagine that this would be on the cheaper scale.

We have our own plant machinery but obv this cost us in salary and time spent. The patio we sourced ourselves and paid cash for a couple of brickies to do at weekends. The materials prob £3k, turf £350, plants not done yet but would assume £2k. our time say £2k.

I would rec a designer to stop any plant and design mistakes. She guided me against loads of stupid flower/tree disasters. We'll do the plants next year now.

Soil drainage, special grass types etc all can suit.

Yes £10,000 would be a good ballpark figure. I wouldnt get the whole package as they is loads of profit made there. Get the jobs done individually, rec by the designer, purchase the materials yourself and cash always sings!!!
