Not sure if I am getting ahead for next year or whether I can still grow veg for the winter? Any ideas for a novice?

Also, any really good gardening books - thinking Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food for the garden.

Thanks from an enthusiastic but pretty clueless beginnner!

You can grow broad beans anytime of year. Or start some fast salad now and grow under cover. You could also cheat and order plug plants instead of growing from seed for the first year only?

As for gardening books, the RHS do a good one called the half hour allotment. Obviously aimed at allotment growers but useful for beginners!

Thanks. Am very excited to have a new project. Good idea about plug plants. Borrowed a gardening for Dummies book from the library that is v good.

It is exciting! We like to plan our plots over the winter - something to cheer us up. And it's so satisfying to see it all growing. Good luck!

Well they are built and I am so proud of myself! Have bought some 'ready grown' veg to start me off. Looks like Mr McGregor's garden out there. Just need to set up slug watch.
